Bio He was born on February 27, 1901 in his home at 4 rue Saint-Florentin, son of Ernest Féret (born in 1863), public servant in the ministries and Blanche Verdier-Dufour.

After graduated law, Paul Féret was appointed in May 1925 Attaché of the Ministry of Education and Fine Arts before moving in late October to the office of the Minister of Public Works.

Paul Féret played over a period of 30 years, from the 1920s to the early 1950s. He reached the quarterfinals at Roland Garros in 1925 and the round of 16 four times, as well as the knockout stages at Wimbledon in 1932.

He participated in two Davis Cup matches during the 1925 campaign with René Lacoste, Jean Borotra and Jacques Brugnon who led France to its first final. He played and won two straight singles matches in preliminary rounds: against Hungary in Budapest in May and against Italy at Racing Club in June 10.

In May 1926, he distinguished himself by a success on the Olympic champion Vincent Richards during a meeting France-United States (6-2, 4-6, 16-14). In September, he announced his desire to go professional to participate in a tour in America with Suzanne Lenglen who will be his mixed doubles partner. His decision to join the professionalism initially surprises because Féret comes from an easy background and plays tennis only for pleasure. At the end of 1927, he stated his intention to be requalified amateur. On December 3, the board of the French Tennis Federation votes almost unanimously the rejection of this request which can be renewed in five years.

Paul Féret is the first French player to lose his amateur status by playing for money. He is however officially reinstated as an amateur in February 1929 according to a decision of the executive committee of the French Federation. As he had proposed, he will have to repay in full the sums earned during this period, which will be donated to charity.
