Bio | Anderson made his Grand Slam final debut at the 2017 US Open, where he lost to Rafael Nadal. At the 2018 Wimbledon Championships, Anderson beat 8-time and defending champion Roger Federer in the quarter-finals 2–6, 6–7(5–7), 7–5, 6–4, 13–11, after being two sets to love down and saving match point in the third set. He went on to beat John Isner in the semifinals in the second longest match in the history of major tournaments, lasting 6 hours and 36 minutes. This would also mark the longest semifinal match in a grand slam tournament. By reaching the final, he became the first South African man to reach the Wimbledon singles final since Kevin Curren in 1985. The score in the final set was 26-24 to Anderson. However, he then lost to Novak Djokovic in the final in straight sets. However, with this run to the Wimbledon Final, he became ranked No.5 in the world, a career best. |
