Biography

He was the fifth child and the second son of Frederick William Heath, the official timekeeper of the Victoria Racing Club and the Victoria Amateur Turf Club, and Georgina Madison Hall. He had 8 siblings (4 brothers -Cecil, Larry, Noel, Geoffrey - and 4 sisters - Violet, Ethel, Myrtle and Dorothy), from who Cecil and Noel played also tennis at a high level.
At the time of his inaugural Grand Slam championship, Rodney Heath was only a few months over his majority. He was tho youngest player that has ever held an interstate championship.
He represented the M.C.C. (Melbourne Cricket Club) in premiership matches the season of 1905, and his best previous achievement was winning a South Australian championship at the meeting in Adelaide. He won 3 New South Wales championships.

Few tennis players in Australia have surpassed the record of Mr. Rodney Heath. He was singles and doubles champion of Australia, winning the first official singles championship in 1905. He represented Australia in International matches. In 1911 he played in the Davis Cup challenge round in New Zealand against the United Stales and defeated W.A. Larned by three sets to one. He went to England in 1915, where he joined the Royal Flying (Aviation) Corps. Two years later he was promoted to the rank of major. After the war, Mr. Heath won the covered court doubles championship in Paris and played in the final of the doubles championship at Wimbledon. He also was a member of the defending Australian Davis cup team in 1920. He was a director of the T. Gaunt's Jewellery Store.

He died in a private hospital on October 26 (Monday), 1936 late afternoon (at night - according to some sources), after an operation.
