Biography
Aline Terry was an American tennis player active at the end of the 19th century. She was born in Princeton, New Jersey.
Terry won both the singles and the doubles title in the 1893 U.S. National Championships (now called the US Open) also the Staten Island tournament.
At US Nationals, in the singles she defeated Augusta Schultz in two sets of 6–1 and 6–3, and she played the doubles with Harriet Butler defeating Augusta Schultz and M. Stone in two sets of 6–4 and 6–3.
In the 1894 Nationals she "sat out" as the holder until the last match, the Challenge Round (as the defending singles champion, she automatically qualified for the final round in singles under the challenge rule). Here Helen Hellwig, who played through, defeated Terry 7-5 3-6 6-0 3-6 6-3. Terry was below her 1893 form, running to the net very often and making several errors with volleys. Aline limited herself to doubles only as her partner Bessie Moore was ill before the event.
The New York Times described her as heavily practising at the Staten Island Tennis Club in Livingstone.
