Bio The former Vanderbilt Head Coach Bill Tym returned to campus during the 2009-10 season as a volunteer assistant coach. Tym coached the Commodores from 1987-1996, where he went 124-124 overall.
A hall of famer, Tym was inducted into the USPTA Hall of Fame in 2007, the USTA Southern Tennis Hall of Fame in 2004 and the Tennessee Tennis Hall of Fame. Tym has coached many professional players over the years, including Yayuk Bauki, the first Indonesian player to reach the quarterfinals of Wimbledon and Bryan Shelton, the first African-American to win an ATP event since Arthur Ashe.

Tym was a SEC singles champion at the University of Florida. He later competed on the international tour, where he won 10 national and international titles.

A former executive director of the USPTA, Tym was named USPTA Professional of the Year in 1982, College Coach of the Year in 1989 and Touring Coach of the Year in 1997 and 2002. He also earned the George Bacso Lifetime Achievement Award from the USPTA in 2001 and the International Tennis Hall of Fame Tennis Educational Merit Award in 1981.
