Bio He is a Danish businessman and former professional tennis player.

He was a tour tennis professional in the 1960s and early 1970s. Between 1959 and 1971 he participated in nine Wimbledon Championships and achieved his best result in 1966 when he reached the fourth round of the singles event and, partnering with his countryman Jørgen Ulrich (uncle of Lars Ulrich whose father is Torben Ulrich), the quarterfinals of the doubles event. Jan Leschly was in the semifinal of the US Championship at Forest Hills in 1967, where he lost to Clark Graebner in five sets. He was ranked World No. 10 for 1967 in Lance Tingay amateur rankings for The Daily Telegraph.

In the 1960s, Leschly was Denmark's most winning tennis player with 40 official DM titles, of which 12 in singles (7 outdoors and 5 indoors). Leschly won international tournaments in England, South Africa and the USA as well as in Copenhagen the open Scandinavian championship in singles in 1968 and 1972. Shortly after the recent victory he stopped playing tournaments to instead concentrate on a professional career in the pharmaceutical industry, first at Novo and then abroad.
The ranking among the top four in the 1967 American Amateur Championships is often mentioned as Leschly's finest tennis result. However, he managed to establish himself in the world elite even after 1968, when the tennis tournaments were opened to professional stars. In 1971, he placed as No. 15 in the worldwide Grand Prix series after i.a. having won a major tournament in Johannesburg, South Africa, with 10 of the world's 25 strongest players, even though all the other nine participants were previously rated higher than the Danish left-handed player. After defeating No. 6, 3 and 2 in an initial pool, Leschly defeated former Wimbledon champion (1966) Manuel Santana of Spain 6-7, 6-3, 6-2 in the final.
